At SpeakDuo, your privacy and the security of your data are our top priorities. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the SpeakDuo mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
A. Voice Audio Data
To provide AI-powered language feedback, we collect and process voice recordings submitted through the app.
- Purpose: This data is used for transcription, pronunciation analysis, and generating linguistic feedback.
- Source: Audio is recorded for speech analysis during the AI voice test, AI interview practice and peer-to-peer breakout room conversation (the latter two are for Pro members only), and only after explicit consent.
B. Account Information
When you create an account, we collect basic information such as your name, email address, and language preferences.
C. Third-Party Authentication (Google & Apple Sign-In)
You may create or access your SpeakDuo account using Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple instead of an email/password combination. These services use the industry-standard OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect protocols.
- Google user data we access: When you choose Sign in with Google, our application accesses only the following Google user data: your name, your email address, and your Google user ID (a unique account identifier). We request only the basic profile and email scopes and do not access any other data in your Google account.
- What we receive: Only the information you authorize the provider to share — your name, email address, and a unique account identifier (Google user ID or Apple user identifier). With Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your real email using Apple's Private Relay; in that case we receive and store only the relay address Apple provides.
- What we never receive: Your Google or Apple password. Authentication happens entirely on the provider's secure servers, and SpeakDuo never sees, stores, or has access to those credentials.
- Tokens: We use short-lived OAuth access/ID tokens solely to verify your identity at sign-in. We do not use these tokens to access any other data in your Google or Apple account (e.g., contacts, files, calendars, photos, or messages), and we do not request scopes beyond basic profile and email.
- Purpose limitation: Data received through Google or Apple sign-in is used exclusively to create and authenticate your SpeakDuo account. It is never used for advertising, tracking, or shared with third parties for their own purposes, in line with the Google API Services User Data Policy (Limited Use) and Apple's App Store Review Guidelines.
- Revoking access: You can disconnect SpeakDuo at any time from your Google account permissions page (myaccount.google.com/permissions) or your Apple ID settings (Settings → Apple ID → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple). You can also delete your SpeakDuo account and all associated data in-app via Settings.
D. Usage Data
We collect anonymized usage data (e.g., features used, session duration, no device IDs or identifiers) to improve our services.
2. How We Process Your Data
A. Third-Party AI Processing
For Pro members only, with explicit consent obtained before breakout room participation or audio submission: Voice audio from conversations is transmitted securely to our servers, then to verified third-party AI providers via secure APIs for processing.
- Our Providers: OpenAI, Microsoft Azure and Groq.
- Processing Only: These providers process your audio solely for transcription and analysis during your specific session. No data is retained by them beyond processing.
B. AI Training & Ethics (Our Commitment)
We do not use your personal voice data to train the foundational or baseline models of our third-party AI providers. Your data is used exclusively to deliver your personalized learning experience and is not shared with third parties for their own marketing or model-development purposes.
C. How We Use, Share and Disclose Google User Data
- Use: Google user data (your name, email address, and Google user ID) is used solely to create your SpeakDuo account, authenticate you at sign-in, and link your account to your learning profile. We do not use Google user data for targeted, personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising; we do not sell it to data brokers or information resellers; and we do not use it for credit-worthiness, lending, or any purpose unrelated to providing or improving SpeakDuo's user-facing features.
- Sharing & transfer: We do not sell, rent, transfer, or disclose Google user data to third parties for their own purposes. Google user data is disclosed only to the service providers strictly necessary to operate SpeakDuo (our cloud hosting/storage and authentication infrastructure), solely to provide and improve the app's functionality, and under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
- AI / machine learning: We do not use Google user data obtained through Google APIs to develop, improve, or train non-personalized (generalized) AI or machine-learning models.
- Limited Use compliance: Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
3. Data Storage and Security
A. Cloud Storage
We use industry-leading cloud storage providers (Cloudflare R2 buckets) for account information and user-saved audio.
- Security: All data — including Google user data — is encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest with enterprise-grade standards. Security procedures and access controls are in place to protect the confidentiality of your data, and access to personal data is limited to authorized personnel and systems that need it to operate the service.
B. Data Retention
- Processing Cache: Audio is stored temporarily only during active transcription/analysis and is deleted once processing completes.
- User Recordings: Saved sessions are stored until you delete them.
- Account & Google user data: Account information (including the name, email address, and Google or Apple account identifiers received via sign-in) is retained for as long as your account is active. We retain personal information only for the length of time needed to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. When the retention period expires — or when you delete your account in-app (Settings) or request deletion via support@speakduo.com — we delete or destroy the associated data, including all data received through Google sign-in, within 30 days.
4. Your Rights and Choices
You have full control:
- Access: Review saved recordings in-app.
- Deletion: Delete specific recordings or your entire account/data anytime via settings.
- Correction: Update profile info (name, email) directly.
5. Children's Privacy
SpeakDuo is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children and will delete it immediately if discovered.
6. App Store Privacy Nutrition Label
Our reported labels:
- Data Linked to You: Email, Name, Audio (for App Functionality, Product Personalization – Pro breakout rooms only), and account identifiers received via Google or Apple sign-in (for App Functionality / account authentication only).
- Data Not Linked: Usage Data (Analytics). No Identifiers linked or tracked.
- Tracking: None across apps/websites.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to how we access, use, store, or share your data — including Google user data — we will notify you in-app and/or via email before the changes take effect and update the "Last Updated" date above. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
